The Republican Party of New Mexico Exposed

On June 16, 2015, Donald J. Trump rode his escalator down to the lobby of Trump Tower to formally announce his candidacy for President. With that announcement came a new era in American politics. Gone were the days of (the appearances of) bipartisan, cooperative, polite politics. While many politicians tried to remain above the dirt of Trumpian politics, it was a futile effort. Eventually, the majority of the Republican Party followed candidate (later President) Trump into the political and societal sewer one by one.

The Republican Party of New Mexico was no different. In the early days of the presidential campaign, Governor Susana Martinez was quick to condemn Trump and refused to support his presidential run. After serving two terms, Governor Martinez left office in 2019 and vanished from New Mexico politics.

Sadly, under the leadership of former New Mexico Representative Steve Pearce, the New Mexico Republican Party has devolved into a toxic brew of accusations, nationalistic ideologies, and authoritarian fascism.

For time, and the sanity of the researchers and authors, this "blog" is not going to discuss the history of the New Mexico GOP. Instead, the intent is to expose what the NMGOP has become and who is playing its game.
